Git Object Inspector

Decodes a single git loose object — the individual files inside .git/objects — showing a blob's content, a tree's entries, or a commit's metadata and message.

Why it exists

Occasionally useful for understanding exactly what git stored for a given object, without running git commands.

How to use it

Drop a file from inside .git/objects/xx/. Its type (blob/tree/commit/tag) is detected automatically and decoded.

Good to know

Covers loose objects only — the individual files git creates for new commits. Objects git has compacted into a packfile (.pack/.idx) aren't read by this tool.
