File Diff / Compare Tool

Compares two files of any type. Text files (JSON, XML, code, config, plain text) get a real line-by-line diff using the Myers algorithm; anything else falls back to a byte-level comparison showing exactly which byte ranges differ.

Why it exists

Seeing exactly what changed between two versions of a file, whether it's a config file, a piece of code, or a binary you're not sure has actually changed.

How to use it

Choose File A and File B, then click Compare. Added and removed lines appear immediately for text, or a table of differing byte ranges for binary files.

Good to know

Works on any two files, but a text diff only kicks in when both files decode as valid UTF-8 — a text file saved with an unusual encoding may fall back to the byte-level view.
